Dear, President Trump
Ever since you were re-elected as president you have made some questionable choices for our country but the choice that has made us the people feel like we don’t belong here in America. The most questionable act you have done was your choice on the new immigration act. More people are losing homes due to the new immigration act. This has caused an uproar of people and students who are trying to voice their opinions on the act. And has separated parents from their children due to being an “illegal” in our country despite the promises of the american dream or a way to better their own lives and the lives of their children, Instead you are choosing to divide this country just because they are considered a “threat” to the USA but in this case half of the U.S. is from a different country or continent.
And as this piece of an article from the New York Times states “Now, with 800,000 lives in the balance and a fiercely anti-immigration current running through the Republican Party, lawmakers are being asked to try again — with a six-month deadline, to boot. The prospects for success after more than a decade of false starts would already be daunting”(Caroline Crosson Gilpin). This quote shows that this act will affect the livelihoods of thousands of people who came to the U.S. seeking a better life. And as this other article from the New York Times states “In the public’s mind, the undocumented — the people living here without permission from the American government — are Hispanic, mostly Mexican and crossed the southwestern border in secret.” (VIVIAN YEE, KENAN DAVIS and JUGAL K. PATEL). This quote shows that the people president trump calls a threat to the us are just people trying to live their lives.
In the eyes of their advocates, they are families and workers, taking the jobs nobody else wants, staying out of trouble, here only to earn their way to better, safer lives for themselves and their children.
Ever president Trump took over the oval office immigrants have suffered to the act that President Trump has put into motion and now it is our turn to let our voices be heard to protest for the thousands of people who have been wrongly mistreated by this immigration act. And some of our voices have been heard across California in cities like Azusa, Pasadena and even in Los Angeles where many students have walked out of school to try and defend their right to live in this country.
Sincerely Cesar Romero, and Aidan Gallardo
