At 18 years old, Marvin Avalos is working as a mechanic and more than often finds himself busy with work and dedicated to his work. Even though he has a seemingly endless amount of work, he continues to live his life to the fullest and full of joy. 

As a mechanic, he works being able to complete most of his work by himself unless instructed otherwise. Dedication is something that Marvin Avalos is exemplary at being able to stay focused and prioritize what needs to be completed. On school days, Marvin typically works 4 hours and 8 hours if not a school day.

Marvin Avalos is an inspiring Azusa High School senior with an extremely good work ethic. Attending school, working a job, and being a driver is an incredible way to build this work ethic.  Here are his experiences, struggles, and dreams.  

The following interview has been edited and condensed.

What is important to ensure good work ethics?

Eat, sleep, and rest well and to know the layout of the job you’re working on, so, you know, take a good look at the car you’re working on. and then that’s where you need it to take some things out to get to the thing you know, the problem.

How difficult would you say your job is?

It could be difficult at times, but it really differs on what you need to do. It’s kind of a 5050 rather it can be more parts out or not, but you’ll know once you look at the layout pretty much

Is there another career pathway you were ever interested in?

I was interested into coding. Yeah, and I kind of ditched that because I got interested into cars, so now I just want to be a mechanic.

Does having your job ever get repetitive or boring?

Not really. You know, there’s always something new with the car problems. It could be something as it always has been sitting for a very long time and is old. I got rats one time. So yeah, it’s always something new.

Where could you see yourself in the future?

I can see myself having my own shop. It’s like the dream I have.
