Jaguars name new president

The Jacksonville Jaguars have announced the hiring of Mark Lamping as the team’s president.

Lamping will be in charge of all non-football facets of the Jaguars, and will report directly to owner Shahid Khan.

Lamping will leave his position as President and Chief Executive Officer of MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Jets and New York Giants, for his new position with the Jaguars, which starts February 27.

Khan calls the hiring of Lamping “a very important and exciting development in the rebirth of the Jacksonville Jaguars.”

Lamping brings a wealth of experience to the Jaguars. The St. Louis native spent 12 years with Anheuser-Busch, where he served in many roles, including brand management and five years as the group director of sports marketing.

Lamping also served as president of the St.Louis Cardinals from 1994-2008, where he was responsible for business and facility operations. He left the Cardinals to join the MetLife Stadium Group in 2008.

Khan has sid many times since taking ownership of the team that he intends to market the Jaguars not only locally, but nationally and internationally. It appears that Lamping will play a large role in those marketing efforts.

“The Jacksonville Jaguars have vast potential and I’m honored that Shad Khan is asking me to play a leadership role in reaching that potential,” Lamping said. “We have the opportunity to revitalize the franchise, and build something special, memorable and hopefully historic for the league, our partners and especially Jaguars fans, who will be central to our mission.”

Jaguars have right to carry over remaining 2011 cap space to 2012

The new Collective Bargaining Agreement, signed before the 2011 NFL season, gives teams the right to carry over any remaining salary cap room from one year to the next.

According to this article by Pro Football Talk, under Article 13, Section C(b)(v), teams can carry over the extra cap room by submitting written notice, signed by the owner of the team, to the league office no later than 14 days before the start of the next league year. Teams can choose whether or not they want to carry over any space, and can choose to carry over the full amount, or any portion of the amount.

This could potentially leave the Jaguars with a ton of money to spend in 2012 on free agency, new deals for players on the roster, and the draft. At last check, the Jaguars had nearly $32 million remaining from 2011 that could, in theory, be rolled over to 2012.

It remains to be seen how much, if any, of that money the Jaguars will choose to carry over, but the potential is there for them to become big spenders in 2012.

Jaguars add Prince to coaching staff

It is being reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars have added Ron Prince to head coach Mike Mularkey’s staff as assistant offensive line coach.

Prince had spent the last two seasons as assistant offensive line coach with the Indianapolis Colts.

Prior to joining the NFL ranks, Prince spent 18 years coaching at the collegiate level, including a stint as offensive coordinator at the University of Virginia, and, most notably, as head coach at Kansas State from 2006-2008.

Greg Jones starting the “Lead Block Foundation”

The Jacksonville Jaguars organization has always given back to the community in big ways. The Jaguars Foundation has given over $15 million to local youth-based organizations since 1995, and numerous players and coaches have personal foundations that give back and serve the Jacksonville community.

You can now add fullback Greg Jones to that list.

Jones is starting the “Lead Block Foundation,” which is going to have programs in Jacksonville and in Jones’ hometown of Beaufort, SC.

The foundation is just getting started, but you can head over to Facebook and “like” them to keep track of what’s going on as they are getting the foundation of the ground.

Watch Shahid Khan’s interview with Dan Hicken

The following video is of an interview Dan Hicken of First Coast News conducted with Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan. It’s been out for a couple of days, but I wanted to post it in case you missed it, or like me, have just now found the time to watch the 20-minute interview in its entirety.

It’s a very good interview, and Mr. Khan continues to impress. The more I hear from him, the more excited I get about the future of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Yeah Boyyy! Tom Coughlin and Flava Flav Hug it Out

Maybe the world really is going to end in 2012, because this surely has to be a sign of the apocalypse.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars and current New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin and rapper Flava Flav share a lengthy embrace on the field after the Giants Super Bowl victory Sunday night.

Having a hard time believing it? Click here to see the video proof.

Never in a million years would I have imagined this scenario playing out. Somehow, I don’t think Coughlin is driving around town with Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power” blasting from his stereo.

If Coughlin shows up at today’s Super Bowl victory parade with a giant clock around his neck, cancel Christmas, the world is most definitely going to end soon.
